How to replace brake light bulb for Audi A4 (B6)
Model years: 2000 - 2006
Brake light is a light indicator in the rear of a vehicle, that illuminates in red each time driver steps on the brake pedal. Strictly speaking it is a warning, that the driver is intended to reduce the speed or will terminate moving at all. Brake light proper performance is very important , otherwise ear-end collisions can occur. If the brake lights of the vehicle are not working, the driver at the back is less acute to speed changes of the car in front , thus car crash might occur. If no red beam comes from any of brake lights, do not think twice and replace the bulb. Prior to fixing dead brake light, make sure you buy an appropriate bulb.
The life-time of a bulb is limited. Sooner or later, it will burn out and will have to be replaced. Bulbs, made of high quality materials, tend to last longer. It's recommended to use well known brand replacement bulbs.
If bulb burns out right after installation, your vehicle might have a problem inside electrical system - have it checked by auto electrician.

How to replace brake light bulb:

To access brake light bulb, open the trunk:

Locate circular cover (1) and open it with the help of a flat head screw driver:

Loosen screw (1):

Rear light cluster is attached to the body with two plugs (marked as "1"):

To dismount the lights cluster, carefully pop out the plugs by slipping your fingers under the lights cluster and pulling it at the positions "1" and "2":

Unplug wiring ("1"). Separate bulbs holder from lights cluster by releasing retainers "2" and "3", pushing them to arrows direction:

Replace bulb marked "5" for a brake light:
