How to replace headlight bulb for BMW X1 five-door SUV (E84)

Model years: 2009 - present
For complete visibility on the road it's advisable to examine if both headlights are working fine. Primarily decayed bulb is a ground for an unworkable headlight, reducing the field of vision of the roadway at nighttime. Moreover your car may be obscure from the position of other drivers. If you have spotted, that the headlight is not functioning anymore, changing the bulb is a must. Just before mending inoperative headlight, make sure you have adequate bulb. Anytime you notice other car with failed headlight throw away any doubts and let the driver know about it. You will be appreciated.

The life-time of a bulb is limited. Sooner or later, it will burn out and will have to be replaced. Bulbs, made of high quality materials, tend to last longer. It's recommended to use well known brand replacement bulbs.

Tip: Never touch glass housing of a halogen bulb with your fingers. Greasy spots might cause premature failure of the bulb. Handle the bulb by its base or use a piece of clean paper when installing.

How to replace headlight bulb:
1. Low beam bulb can be accessed through the wheel house (arch). To make bulb access easier, turn the wheel inwards.
2. Remove the cover on the fender (wheel housing cover):
3. Locate low beam bulb covering cap (2) and remove it by turning counterclockwise:
4. Unplug wiring from the bulb.
5. To loosen the bulb, remove the wire bracket from it.
6. Remove old bulb and replace it with the new one.
7. High beam bulb can be accessed via engine compartment.
8. To take the cover (1) off, fold the bracket out:
9. Unplug wiring from the bulb.
10. To loosen the bulb, remove the wire bracket from it.
11. Remove old bulb and replace it with the new one.
