Audi A3 (8P) battery replacement

Car battery is a primary component inside automotive electrical system. In sum, it accumulates electrical energy, which is provided for electric devices inside the car. So, it's important to maintain the state of the battery in a fully operating condition. Believe it or not, car battery is an expiring unit and will eventually become useless. More specifically, chemical processes inside the battery will terminate and no electricity will be produced. Battery's lifespan has a limit, which is approximately 3 - 5 years, which means, it cannot be recharged later on. This is the reason why installation of a new battery is needed. It could be, that battery will run dry, due to the soil concentrated on connection points. Over time, battery terminals can get covered by white powder (corrosion), which is a reason of bad connection contacts. This implies, that the battery will lose the merit of being re-charged by alternator. Little by little, it will get exhausted and become incapable of supplying electricity. Removing debris where cables and battery connects, might get the battery back to its normal operation and prepare it ready to be used again. The battery may also get flat, if the car was left unused for some time. In such case, recharging the battery will likely recover its efficiency. How to replace car battery:
1.
Before battery replacement, make sure:
- you wear sturdy gloves and safety goggles
- vehicle keys are out of ignition switch

The following tools are usually enough for battery replacement procedure:
- 10 and 13 mm wrenches or sockets
- Flat-head and Phillips type screw drivers
3. Audi A3 battery is located in engine compartment.

To start replacing battery, remove the old one by disconnecting the negative connection first. This will prevent accidental short-circuits between positive battery terminal and the body of the vehicle. Make sure the cable does not come into contact with battery terminals during battery replacement procedure. Negative battery terminal can be identified by minus (-) sign next to it (1):

To move cable connector away from negative terminal (1), release nut:

Open positive terminal cover (1):

Disconnect positive connector (1), by releasing the nut:

If present, disconnect ventilation hose from the battery (1). Some vehicles utilize battery ventilation system to vent formed gasses (hydrogen) to the outside.

Remove brackets that hold the battery attached to the vehicle frame.

Vacate battery compartment by lifting the old battery off (note, that the battery is heavy, incorrect lifting can result in back injuries):

Do not remove plastic terminal caps from new battery, until it's placed in the battery compartment inside the vehicle.

Place the new battery in.
13.
Connect ventilation hose.
14.
If necessary, clean battery cables from dirt or rust before connecting, to ensure excellent contact.
15.
Contrary to disconnecting the battery, connect cables, starting with positive terminal first.
16.
Re-attach brackets and make sure battery does not make any movements.
17.
Dispose the old battery only at authorized collecting point.
